          The given article is a preface to a series of three articles of a composite author who considers the questions concerning the use of digital educational resources during the learning process at school and high school. The necessity of development of computer training aids is proved in this article taking into account their motivational, technological and methodological components. This point of view is realized in the suggested series by the example of solving the problem of learning to read and translate foreign professional texts.           In the article there is a retrospective review of development of a concept of “motive” and “motivation”, a brief review of nature of the motives of studying, contribution of home and foreign teachers and psychologists to the development of motivation theory is stated. Relying on the researches of sociologists and psychologists, the author draws a conclusion about specific nature of motives of learning a foreign language of high school students.           In the article there is a consideration of the programmes for learning a foreign language which differ in teaching functions, filling and information organization to find out why it is so difficult to apply them to the learning process. There are the results of the research which technology and methodology can make the application of computer tools convenient (or not) in a high school or a school or independent studies (technological aspect) and influence positively (or negatively) the learning process with the introduction of an electronic instrumentation (methodological aspect).           The article considers the reasons of low motivation of reading professional texts presented by conventional training aids (books of the past period ) and by students of non-linguistic departments of a pedagogical high school.The positive solution of this problem is suggested by the mathematical and biological examples with the help of computer and paper visual training aids. There are qualitative and quantitative data based on the results of a big experiment made by the authors of the physical and mathematical and natural-geographical departments and also at the departments of an applied mathematics, programming and economics of the Murmansk State Pedagogical University.
